Praying for Strangers: Self-Injurers

She cries herself to sleep alone. She feels her pain is too heavy to carry. The burden of her world is always on her shoulders. She can't deal so she cuts herself. She can't deal so she burns herself. She can't deal so she pulls out her hair. She hurts herself ...

Self-injury is more common than we'd think. Women of all ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds engage in self-injury. Contrary to popular belief self-injurers aren't trying to kill themselves. Self-injury is a coping mechanism that helps one feel better. SI happens when a young lady experiences a traumatic and/or painful experience that she feels she can't deal with. Self-injury is the result of not being able to deal with painful emotions, experiences and memories. I too was once a self-injurer so I understand first hand the pain and darkness that is found in such a low place. What breaks my heart most about this is that this isn't an issue that is highlighted often or even talked about and yet so many girls sit alone in their rooms coping with their pain through cutting and other various forms of SI. These women NEED to be covered in prayer. I am a testimony of the power of God mighty to save!!! I can boldly say today I don't engage in self-injury and I never will again because of the power of God. Beloved, Intercession is not merely an option, there is POWER when you pray. Yield yourself to the Holy Spirit and begin to pray for strangers. Begin to pray for self-injurers.
